Welcome to C.A.R.E
Who We Are
Capital Area Rescue Effort, Inc. (C.A.R.E) was founded in 2011 in the Richmond, Virginia area.

We rescue dogs that have been abandoned, orphaned or experience abuse or neglect, and we work to find them safe and loving permanent homes. C.A.R.E. takes its responsibility for each dog’s future very seriously. Unlike many other shelter and rescue groups, we feel that our dogs are our clients, and that our responsibility to them includes learning what their individual needs are in their adoptive homes. For this reason we do not pre-approve adopters. Please carefully consider our adoption policies presented on this website.
What We Do
Upon arrival to our kennel, we begin to care for the dogs coming from shelters and surrenders. The needs of each is different. At adoption we provide record of veterinary examinations, spay/neuter surgeries (if needed), microchips, vaccinations and heart worm testing. If necessary, we arrange for treatment of more serious medical issues which can be very costly to our rescue.
The cost of these treatments is not passed to the adopter. We must raise all funds needed for the care of our dogs. Please consider a donation!
